Honda is tapping into its past for a new ad for the 2016 Honda HR-V crossover. The clever spot, called “Great Thinking Inside,” shows seven different iconic Honda models transforming and iterating until we see the new HR-V and its spacious interior at the end.
The entertaining progression of older Honda models is mostly chronological, and does its best to show how the Honda HR-V integrates the great packaging, sporty driving dynamics, and innovative thinking associated with Honda over the years.
The first car shown is a yellow, second-generation Honda CRX, the sporty hatchback based on the Civic sold between 1978-1991. The CRX then transforms into a its spiritual successor, a red, fourth-generation Honda Civic Si hatchback. Next up is a blue, fourth-generation Honda Prelude, which then changes into a maroon, fourth-generation Honda Accord station wagon.
We start to explore a few funkier Honda offerings as the Accord becomes a bright green Honda CR-X Del Sol from the mid-1990s. Next is a grey Honda S2000 roadster, which is then consumed by a boxy, orange Honda Element.
Last but not least is the 2016 Honda HR-V, the subject of this new ad campaign that also includes another TV spot called “Give and Take.” This new subcompact crossover that’s based on the Honda Fit is on sale now for a starting price of $19,995.
