BMW isn't the only manufacturer that's willing to Aston Martin has unveiled the livery for the #97 Gulf Vantage GTE, which was penned by artist Tobias Rehberger. The art car will contest the 24 Hours of Le Mans this Saturday, June 13.

Aston says the unique paint job is meant to give "the illusion of movement and speed, even when static." The pattern's almost 3D-looking vertical lines of alternating colors does create an interesting visual effect, but the BMW M3 GT2 art car designed by Jeff Koons in 2010 might capture that sense of motion a bit better. Known for his abstract art and visual effects, Rehberger has won several awards for his work, including the Golden Lion for best artist at the 2009 Venice Biennale. The artist said in a release that "the design is based on a geometric optical effect pattern. Comparable to a fast object, a steady fixation on a point of the pattern is impossible."

The #97 Gulf Aston Martin Vantage GTE art car will make its debut at this weekend's 24 Hours of Le Mans, where it will race against other GTE Pro-class entrants like the Corvette C7.R, Porsche 911 RSR, and Ferrari 458 Italia.
