Months after debuting the Aventador SV Coupe, Lamborghini brought out a roadster version just in time for Monterey Car Week. Only 500 copies will be distributed worldwide, making it even more exclusive than the coupe.
The brilliant blue roadster was presented at The Quail, A Motorsport Gathering on Friday. Its two-piece hardtop made from carbon fiber is extremely light, as each roof part weighs just over 13 pounds. Lamborghini says the new model reaches 3,472 lbs, making it 110 pounds lighter than the standard Aventador LP 700-4 Roadster.
Just like the SV Coupe, the roadster packs a naturally aspirated 6.5-liter V-12 good for 740 hp and 509 lb-ft of torque. That engine is paired with a seven-speed single-clutch automatic transmission that delivers power to all four wheels. It's a little slower to hit 62 mph than the coupe, achieving 2.9 seconds instead of 2.8 seconds according to Lamborghini estimates. Top speed is a blistering 217 mph.
The carbon fiber-intensive Lamborghini Aventador SV Coupe debuted at the Geneva motor show earlier this year. The automaker limited production to just 600 copies, all of which were sold out quickly. We imagine the Aventador SV Roadster is destined for a similar fate, despite its high starting price of $530,075. Deliveries begin early next year.
