Report: Exclusive Lamborghini Centenario Supercar Headed to Geneva

New model will be based on Aventador SV and marks centennial of birth of Lambo founder, Ferruccio Lamborghini

Lamborghini is planning to unveil an ultra-exclusive, limited-run supercar at next year’s Geneva show, according to a report from French publication TF1. Called the Lamborghini Centenario LP 770-4, this new model will be based on the existing Aventador SV and celebrates the centennial of the birth of Ferruccio Lamborghini, the founder of the Italian carmaker. We first heard about an exclusive Aventador SV-based hypercar in July.

The Centenario is named in honor of the 100th birthday of the company's founder, Feruccio Lamborghini. Because such a distinction deserves an appropriate amount of power, the hypercar’s purported 6.5-liter V-12 engine will make 760 hp, 19 hp more than the existing Lamborghini Aventador SV (pictured). The extra power will reportedly be good for a 0-62 mph run of 2.7 seconds and a top speed upwards of 215 mph. Other than the massaged V-12, the Centenario will feature plenty of aerodynamic tweaks and visual changes to set it apart from the Aventador, all of which will help justify the steep price tag that is expected to top $1 million.

Though it won’t be quite as exclusive as the previous $4.5 million Lamborghini Veneno (of which Lamborghini only sold 3 examples), the Centenario LP 770-4 will still be sold in extremely low numbers. Only 20 examples are anticipated, giving the Centenario a similar rarity as the Murcielago-based Lamborghini Reventon that was first unveiled in 2007. Lamborghini fanatics who can’t get their hands on the first 20 Centenario coupes may want to hold out hope for a potential roadster variant further down the line, as the Reventon spawned a 15-unit run of roadsters after the initial run of coupes sold out.

Look for the Lamborghini Centenario LP 770-4 to make its debut to the world at the 2016 Geneva auto show next march, and stay tuned for more information about this new model over the coming months.

The show must go on, as they say, and so that’s exactly what organizers of the much-loved annual Tokyo Auto Salon did, taking the 3-day event that usually happens in Chiba’s Makuhari Messe convention center and translating it (metaphorically, not literally; it was still largely in Japanese) into both streaming video and 3D. Super Street: Anytime we talk about a vehicle prototype, the overwhelming response, once some of the initial smoke has cleared (and people are done cursing out the manufacturer and demanding that their design team be fired immediately), centers heavily on claims that the production car will look nothing like the demo car. In some cases,

You know the name Joel Tan (@jt_built) from his wildly popular SR20DET-swapped, ‘40s-era Willy’s Jeep that mingles among the top of Super Street’s most popular feature cars of all time, and we expect his 1972 Nissan Skyline GT-R and Toyota Trueno of the same birth year will also have a lasting impression. Both cars feature

The “most powerful 3-cylinder in the world,” applied to Toyota’s much talked about GR Yaris still sounds a little strange when you hear it, but you can’t deny the nasty 250+hp and over 260 lb-ft. of torque that are delivered through an eager AWD system, all packed into a relatively lightweight (by modern hatchback standards)

As if to pour a little salt into the wound that the hottest hatch in ages, the AWD Toyota GR Yaris, is not being brought to North America, the interwebs has begun to conspire against us by teasing us with modified versions from some of the biggest tuners in the biz. In December, those sneak
