After announcing Super Street's partnership with ENEOS, the original JDM Motor Oil brand, in searching for the ultimate car to represent the brand at SEMA Show 2018, we were hit almost immediately with a few hundred entries. Some were good, some were great, and some, like the three listed below, carried the spirit that ENEOS was after. It wasn't easy, but with a panel of judges, a public vote, and more internal back and forth than you can possibly imagine, a winner has been chosen for that coveted space at next month's industry mega-event in Las Vegas.
2nd Runner Up - @connor_lol Scion FR-S
Sleek, aggressive lines, a proper stance, and the power to back it all up with a Borg Warner ER 6758-based turbo kit, @connor_lol's FR-S was in the mix from the very beginning.
From the subtle TRD enhancements to the nicely contrasting CCWs and tasteful interior upgrades, this car seems to check all of the boxes for both street and show car wish lists. And with a loyal fan following, the FR-S/BRZ/86 legions were pulling for the widened build. So much in fact that when we asked you to vote for your favorite car to take the win, this FR-S took the majority vote via Instagram. And though it didn't land the top spot after being put through the overall judging wringer, a third-place finish is extremely respectable given the level of competition.
1st Runner Up - @xhaymakerx
Not far from Vegas, @xhaymakerx managed to put together a shining example of the cult classic Corolla coupe. Though the chassis itself already carries a huge, built-in fan base, this car cuts no corners and is as capable as it is good looking.
And even if the outside isn't enough to pull you in, pop the hood and one glance at that v-mount set up on the SR20DET swap certainly will. The only thing that stopped this car from taking the top spot was the car below.
WINNER - @jdmpalace
You always hear about SEMA builds not running or perhaps being all show with no go and, in many cases, held together with bubble gum and zip ties. And while that can be the truth in some cases, there are also a solid number of builds that are the exact opposite. Some are dressed up showpieces while others, like this FD3S RX-7, are raw, yet refined.
From the outside, the wild RE Amemiya aero and TE37s take care of the appearance department, but under the hood is much more than few polished parts and a shock tower bar. Built by the rotary gurus at RE Amemiya, the car's native heart puts out close to 500hp.
Inside the cabin, a set of Recaros, a bevy of gauges to relay engine vitals, and a rollbar is about all you'll find as the focus is pure functionality. The car is amazing to see in pictures, but even better in person, and you have the chance to see it live at SEMA 2018!
We want to congratulate @jdmpalace and the two runner-ups, as well as thank everyone that took the time to enter and vote for our first ever SEMA vehicle search. If you're lucky enough to attend the big show, be sure to check out the RX-7 in person, and pay a visit to the ENEOS booth. We'll see you there!
