Nissan is adding yet another model to its motorsports-inspired Nismo lineup. The 2017 Nissan Sentra Nismo is headed to market, and buyers can choose between a six-speed manual and Xtronic CVT with a manual mode.
The model borrows its powertrain from the Sentra SR Turbo, which is also new for the 2017 model year. That means it can produce 188 hp and 177 lb-ft of torque from its turbocharged inline-four engine. It boasts a Nismo-tuned suspension, and steering has been specially customized for Nismo performance.
Nissan also gave its new model the full Nismo treatment on the exterior. Enhancements to the bodywork help improve aerodynamics, reducing rear lift by 30 percent. Riding on 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels and Michelin Pilot Sport all-season tires, the model offers a slightly more commanding presence than the standard Sentra. Nissan also dropped the ride height by 0.4 inch.
Four exterior colors—including Brilliant Silver, Gun Metallic, Super Black, and Aspen White—serve as a canvas to show off red accents on the body. Other special cues include a unique exhaust finisher, dark chrome door handles, a rear Nismo badge, and black mirror caps. Inside the cabin, the red theme continues with red Alcantara upholstery. The Sentra Nismo also receives special Nismo front seats with additional side bolstering, a unique Alcantara and leather-wrapped steering wheel, leather shift knob, and Nismo-embroidered carpets.
Other than the Nismo-specific bits, the model comes pretty well equipped with a 5.0-inch display, Sirius XM satellite radio, and Siri Eyes Free capability. Opt for the Premium package if you want an upgraded Bose sound system or a larger 5.8-inch touchscreen display.
In addition to the Sentra, Nissan also offers Nismo versions of the GT-R, 370Z, and Juke. The 2017 Nissan Sentra Nismo makes its debut at the 2016 L.A. auto show.
