Yokohama Tire Corporation Introduces New Interactive Glass Windows at LA Auto Show

Yokohama Tire offers consumers a different take on tire education.

Ever wonder how under-inflation or over-inflation affects a tire exactly? Or how misalignment can cause a tire to wear prematurely? Consumers visiting Yokohama Tire Corporation’s exhibit in the West Hall of the Los Angeles Auto Show (November 18-27) can now find out in an engaging manner with the launch of the tire company’s interactive glass windows.

“When we set out to advance tire education at the LA Auto Show this year, we wanted to immerse consumers in a fun, yet unique experience,” said Alan Holtschneider, Yokohama manager, advertising, promotions & events. “Our new interactive glass windows provide just that by further taking advantage of current haptic technology. Similar to the Yokohama Tire Explorer iPad app, users are able touch the screens, provide input, and move images around to learn about tires – but this time they are doing it on 4’ x 8’ glass windows, similar to the ones showcased in the movie, ‘Minority Report’. We’re confident that consumers will find them educational as well as entertaining.”

Holtschneider said two educational modules will be featured: tire pressure and tire wear. “The tire pressure module will explain how important proper tire inflation is, how to check it and how it can save consumers money at the gas pump. The tire wear module will teach consumers about tire rotation, as well as proper alignment and what their effects are on a tire’s life.”

The interactive glass windows will also have an “innovations in action” motorsports module featuring off-road and sports car racing that showcase Yokohama’s technology. “Pop-ups” will appear on the screen with interesting facts about the innovations in the Yokohama tires used in each of the racing series featured.

The interactive glass windows will also provide custom backgrounds for consumers wishing to take a photo of themselves inside Yokohama’s booth as part of the company’s Twitter® photo contest. The Twitter® photo contest will award a free tablet computer each day, as well as hourly Yokohama gear prizes, throughout the 12-day auto show.
