Originally shown as a concept car at the 2011 Frankfurt auto show, this production version of the Fender Beetle finally made its public debut recently at the lesser-known Liepzig auto show.
Through a series of upgrades, the Beetle takes on the persona of a Fender instrument with interior audio components and exterior badging.
The cars are equipped with the 200hp 2.0TSI turbo engine and all are black with brushed chrome mirrors, 18” moondisc-style wheels and the legendary Fender logo.
Inside, the painted dash has the sunburst color of a Fender guitar, while the upholstery has contrasting seams to match.
The Fender audio system debuted in the US in the Jetta GLI and the Beetle is the first to take this equipment to European customers. It uses special Panasonic speakers to create a soundstage similar to a live performance – audio quality that won CNET.com’s “Best-sounding car stereo” award last year.
The Fender Premium Audio System includes nine speakers (four tweeters, two co-axial, two rear one subwoofer) and a ten-channel amp providing 400W of power.
The Beetle Fender Edition will first go on sale in Europe and be available in the US in the fall of 2012. Pricing will be announced later.
