The go-bigger, go-higher MINI, the Countryman crossover/SUV thingy, now comes in go-faster John Cooper Works trim. MINI developed a new 1.6-liter, four-cylinder engine for this most-powerful machine the company has ever produced. A turbocharger helps bring about 218 hp and 207 lb-ft of torque (an overboost function makes the occasional 221 lb-ft). Standstill to 60 mph is a tad under 7 seconds and top speed is 140 mph. This is the first JCW model to have all-wheel drive and an automatic transmission as standard, joining a lowered sports suspension, sports exhaust, sports seats and 18-inch alloy wheels. It goes on sale later in the year.
