Jean Bugatti is legendary amongst automotive enthusiast as a pioneer in exquisite automotive coachbuilding. But like most legendary artists some visions never come to reality.

Over 70 years later that dream has become a reality. The coveted Bugatti Chassis #64002 never received its final exterior bodywork (due to Jean Bugatt’s tragic death during a road test in 1939) and has since become an engineering icon for its advanced practices in forged frame building technology– well ahead of any production vehicle of its day.

Famed French coachbuild collector, Peter Mullin, would acquire the chassis decades later with the goal of realizing Jean Bugatti’s vision. Created in collaboration with the Mullin Automotive Museum, Stewart Reed Design and Automobile Metal Shaping Company; the new hand formed aluminum body pays homage to Jean Bugatti’s original concept. In honoring the past, the body was constructed utilizing many techniques developed during the time period of the car.

Making its global debut at the Quail, A Motorsports Gathering August 17th, the finished body will accompany the chassis for the first time since 1939, when Jean set pen to paper. “I cannot imagine a greater token of respect to the Bugatti family than to help finish Jean Bugatti’s beloved final masterpiece.” Stated Peter Mullin, Chairman of the Mullin Automotive Museum.

For those not able to attend the Quail event, The Mullin Automotive Museum will be showcasing the vehicle in Oxnard, CA later this fall.
