World renowned for his fashion design, it's less well known that Karl Lagerfeld has pursued a passion for photography since 1987. In fact, his work has been shown in international exhibitions from the Langen Foundation in Neuss, to the Museum del Bramante Cloister in Rome.

More recently, Lagerfeld visited Rolls-Royce to present a photography exhibition, entitled 'A Different View'. The exhibition comprised his own photographs of Rolls-Royce cars and was shown to private guests at the Rolls-Royce HQ in Goodwood, England.

The exhibition formed part of the company's Icons of Art series. It has included a series of talks by contemporary artists in tribute to the artistry behind each Rolls-Royce.

Lagerfeld's work explored his fascination with textures, surfaces, shapes and abstractions that transcend his position in the fashion world. "I can no longer view life without juxtaposing its abstraction. I view the world, fashion and automobiles through my camera lens. That allows me to keep a critical distance to my work. This approach serves me more than I had ever thought possible in my view of reality. Each of my shots of the Rolls-Royce is the abstract representation of a concrete reality. The technical medium of photography is a welcome means for my artistic work, creating my different view," Lagerfeld said.

Previous Icons of Art include John Zinsser, Marie-Jo Lafontaine and Isaac Julien. The series concludes in December at Art Basel Miami.
