Volvo cars will make a Hollywood-style splash at the 2012 LA Auto Show this week with the S60 Polestar Concept.
Developed by the Swedish manufacturer's performance and motorsport partner, Polestar, this very special AWD S60 boasts 508hp and a more aggressive stance thanks to the unique wider body panels and 19" wheels.
During european car Magazine's recent test drive, found in the November 2012 issue) we compared it favorably to the BMW M3, such is its performance and sophistication.
"This is Polestar's interpretation of the Volvo S60," said Christian Dahl, founder and CEO of Polestar."
The turbocharged, inline six-cylinder engine has been tuned to deliver a considerable increase in power and torque. The 508hp and 424 lb-ft of torque overwhelms the output of the stock T6 engine which claims a not inconsiderable 300hp and 325 lb-ft itself.
The combination of a lowered, widened and reinforced chassis, a tuned Haldex all-wheel-drive system, and Öhlins suspension makes the car uniquely suitable for both high-performance driving and long-distance traveling.
According to Volvo Polestar racing driver Robert Dahlgren, "It is, by far, the most impressive street Volvo I've ever driven. But I must also say that the genuine Volvo feeling is still there."
Polestar has been Volvo's performance partner since 1996, offering tuning technology and parts enhancement to production-model vehicles. A Polestar-tuned S60 R-Design and XC60 R-Design currently are offered in the Volvo lineup, bumping the performance to 325hp and 354 lb-ft, respectively.
Look out for the exciting S60 Polestar at the LA Auto Show and visit your local Volvo dealer to find out about these software upgrades for many existing turbo models.
