Mercedes-AMG and Cigarette Racing is launching a new development of its cooperation at the Miami International Boat Show (14-18 February 2013).

For this project, numerous components from the SLS AMG Coupé Electric Drive have been integrated into the "Cigarette AMG Electric Drive Concept" powerboat.

The electric drive from the sports car makes this off-shore powerboat the world's most powerful and fastest electrically driven motor boat, boasting an output of 2220hp (1656 Kilowatts) and a maximum torque of 2210 lb-ft (3000 Newton meters).

The 38ft powerboat is finished in "AMG Electricbeam magno" - a matte chrome paintwork used exclusively on the SLS AMG Coupé Electric Drive.

Wearing AMG logos on the side, the boat is a clear sign of the alliance between the Miami-based boat manufacturer and Mercedes-AMG.

The powerboat uses uses two drive units at the rear of the boat, each using six independent electric motors. Each drive unit has its own transmission, one on the left and one on the right. The 12 liquid-cooled permanent-magnet synchronous electric motors are the centerpiece of the SLS AMG Coupé Electric Drive, with each electric motor delivering 185hp and 185 lb-ft.

So the maximum output of 2220hp gives a top speed of 99mph, making this emission-free "Cigarette AMG Electric Drive Concept" the world's fastest electrically driven powerboat.

In keeping with the road car, the boat's motors and battery are placed to provide a low center of gravity and optimum weight distribution to help with changes of direction.

The liquid-cooled lithium-ion high-voltage battery in the SLS AMG features a modular design with a maximum delivery of 400V. It consists of 12 modules with 72 lithium-ion cells and has an energy content of 60 Kilowatt hours, giving an electric load potential of 600 Kilowatts while weighing 1206 lb.

The Cigarette integrates four of these batteries with a total of 48 modules and 3456 cells, generating up to 240 Kilowatt hours and an electric output of 2400 Kilowatts. It's also fitted with two 22 Kilowatt chargers from the SLS AMG, that have been adapted to fit the infrastructure of many American marinas. The boat has a charging capacity of 44 Kilowatts, so the battery would be fully charged in approximately seven hours. To reduce the charging time to less than three hours, the powerboat can be fitted with four on-board chargers as an option.
