What's in a name? I'm not important enough to be at the new hyper-Ferrari press conference so I don't have the definitive answer, but what I can tell you is that it has been named "LaFerrari". Do not adjust your sets folks, you read that correctly: "LaFerrari". So whilst the department which dreams up new Ferrari names may have been short staffed, the engineering department sure as hell wasn't; this car is an engineers wet dream.

Sitting in a tub made from 4 different types of carbon is a 6.3l V12 revving to 9250rpm and putting out 800bhp, power is boosted under acceleration to 963bhp by a hybrid system combining electric motors with just 60kg of batteries. It's no Prius, but thanks to the hybrid system 330g/km is far better than usual at this level. The stunning bodywork incorporates a phalanx of scoops, wings and diffuser which constantly adjust to maintain optimum downforce & aero efficiency - Ferrari rightly make much of their work in this area. Combining near-Veyron power with substantially less than Veyron weight delivers unreal performance claims: 0-62mph in "less than 3 seconds" 0-124mph "under 7 secs" and top speed beyond 217mph. Ferrari claim it's 5 secs quicker than an Enzo round their own test track, Fiorano, whilst it betters the F12 by 3 seconds.

Other factoids? The cabin was developed with help of Alonso & Massa for better driver focus, whilst the carbon seat is fixed to the tub - seat & pedals adjust to accommodate. 499 will be made, and if you'd like to own one it'll cost you a cool €1m. Except it won't, because the entire production run is already sold out. Ferrari hypercar salesman might just be the easiest job on the planet...
