Quite how Lamborghini managed to keep it's Geneva show star a secret right up unil the beginning of show week remains a mystery, but this time last week Geneva was expected to be a Ferrari/McLaren hypercar shootout with Lamborghini playing very much second fiddle.

That was blown out the water a few days back when rumours of the super-Lambo started circulating amid speculation that 'it-can't-possibly-look-like-that.... can it?'. Well it could, and it does. Looking like the creation of a sugar-hyper 8 year old, the Veneno is a breathtaking bit of kit in the flesh. Possessing more scoops, angles & intakes per square metre than an entire La Ferrari, it takes inspiration from prototype sports racing cars with every panel fashioned from carbon fibre, including the huge fin than runs down it's spine. Being based on the Aventador means a carbon tub, whilst the 6.5 V12 is tuned to deliver 750bhp and a louder voice; the resulting 220mph / 0-60mph 2.8secs is probably 'enough'....

€3m (plus tax) might sound punchy for a car that could be thought of as little more than a rebodied Aventador (although every component from stability control to gearbox are recalibrated for this application), but Lamborghini had little trouble selling out the Murcielago based €1m Reventon and the Veneno follows suit as it is already sold out - although only 3 are officially coming to the market. The show car is number '0' and the only one to sport all three colours of the national flag (the others have one colour each), and Lamborghini hasn't decided what to do with it yet so maybe - just maybe - if your pockets are deep enough it might be worth an offer...
