Mazda introduces Kodo at Milan Design Week

Although we don't normally cover Mazda stories, we couldn't resist this one, especially since our old friend and ex-VW Chief Designer in the USA, Derek Jenkins is involved at his new position.

Derek traveled to Milan for its annual Design Week, along with Mazda's Head of design, Ikuo Maeda, and colleague Peter Birtwhistle. They were in Italy to reveal the Kodo Chair, which was designed by Maeda and his team in Hiroshima, Japan.

Kodo is the Soul of Motion and the Kodo chair emulates beauty and motion while being used for a stationary purpose. The chair also represents the precision in Mazda vehicles, which is captured in its form.

Unveiled at the Mazda Con-Temporary Space, the Kodo Chair was displayed alongside the latest Mazda 6, which also demonstrates such precision and motion.

Other exhibits in the Space included Italian artist Giuliana Cuneaz, who reflected Mazda's design approach. The Forma Fluens exhibit by Cuneaz features the use of 3D and HD video to express motion through various mediums.
