LOEB IN FINAL TESTING BEFORE PIKES PEAK

Continuing its preparation for the 2013 Pikes Peak Hill Climb, Peugeot took both its 208 T16 Pikes Peak racecar and driver Sebastien Loeb to Mont Ventoux in southern France for some final testing.

The mountain allowed valuable data to be collected before the team heads to Colorado for the Race To The Clouds that takes place on 30th June.

Unfortunately, the French mountain is not as high as Pikes Peak, but its combination of turns was said to be an ideal venue for development and fine-tuning the powerful 875hp Peugeot.

After Loeb's first outing in the car, which we previously covered here at www.europeancarweb.com, the 208 T16 has continued to undergo development in the hands of test driver Grégory Guilvert. He has been put miles on the while Loeb took part in WRC Argentina and a Porsche Cup race, winning the rally in the process.

After driving the car in its new Red Bull colors on the mountain, Loeb commented that it was no less aggressive than the first time he drove it. "It's the same beast," he beamed after his first run. "Driving it on a real road is a very useful pointer because this is what awaits us at Pikes Peak. Its handling is extremely responsive but I'm still not quite able to place it as precisely as I would like. That's something we will need to work on a little more..."

The development will now continue in the US after the Peugeot has been flown out to Colorado at the end of May.
