The fifth round of the FIA World Rally Championship saw Sebastien Loeb return for Citroen, putting renewed pressure on the full-time teams and drivers to beat their arch rival.
The punishing terrain meant Argentina proved more difficult than previous races in terms of the amount of force the cars had to absorb. Pushing through the problems, VW's Sebastien Ogier/Julien Ingrassia finished second, just behind the unbeatable Loeb.
Their battle made it a thrilling rally, with the two Frenchmen fighting over first place. And while Ogier took the lead after setting the best times on five stages, he would lose time when Ogier missed a braking point, giving Loeb the win.
However, Volkswagen took second and third place to not only extended their lead in the drivers' championship but also retained the number one spot in the manufacturers' championship.
Third place went to Jari-Matti Latvala/Kiikka Anttila in the second VW Polo WRC, with the pair setting fastest time on all four stages on Saturday including the Power Stage.
