Few supercars have captured the public's imagination like the awesome Alfa 8C Competizione.Just as the delivery schedule is being finalized for the first examples of Alfa Romeo's 8C Coupe, the Italian manufacturer announces this stunning convertible version, the exquisite Alfa 8C Spider, at next month's Geneva Motor Show.
Visually arresting from every angle, the Alfa 8C Spider looks every inch a supercar, and under the hood is the same 4.7 liter V8 as in the 8C coupe, producing 450hp, which is channelled through a sophisticated six-speed F1-style paddle-shift gearbox to the rear wheels.
Inside the carbon fiber cockpit, a dashboard-mounted button effortlessly transforms the perfectly cosseted cabin of the Alfa 8C Spider into a sublime open top GT cruiser. Constructed from two layers of fabric, the roof creates a perfectly weatherproof, acoustically comfortable passenger environment.
For added individuality, the roof can also be personalized in various colors to suit the body color of the vehicle.Like its coupe stablemate, production of the Alfa 8C Spider will be limited to 500 units, and just like the Coupe it is expected to sell out within weeks of being announced.Although Alfa Romeo left the United States in 1994, the manufacturer is expected to return in 2009 with the beautiful 8C. But the price of the Coupe is expected to be in the region of $250,000.
