2008 Chevrolet Aveo - Penny Pinchers

Jul 9, 2008

Credit-crunched Londoners grabbed pocketfuls of pennies at the launch of a 20ft billboard advertisement made entirely from penny coins. The unique installation - made using over 20,000 pennies - only lasted 30 minutes as hundreds of opportunistic passers-by seized their moment to pick up a penny or two.

The penny billboard was unveiled in London, England to advertise the 769,500-pence ($15000) starting price of the new Chevrolet Aveo.

Chevrolet's Les Turton commented:
"There have been some great car advertisements before, but none that stopped traffic and actually put money back into the motorist's pocket. This is certainly a first. We're happy to have topped-up lots of people's wallets, purses and, in some cases, backpacks, but it would have been nice for the billboard to last a little longer than 30 minutes! At least it showcased that the new Chevrolet Aveo is great value-for-money."

Earlier this year, Subaru announced the WRX STI would get a 5-horsepower boost for 2019. No, it wasn’t much, but at least the STI would no longer be outgunned by the turbocharged four-cylinder Mustang. Subaru’s latest special edition STI, however, comes with a much less underwhelming boost in power. It’s called the WRX STI TC 380, and
