NITTO TIRE SPONSORS FORMULA DRIFT BMW 335i V10

Nitto Tire has announced four team sponsorships for the 2010 Formula Drift racing series.

They include Bergenholtz Racing's Mazda RX-8; Matt Powers' Nissan S14, and Tanaka Racing's C5 Corvette. The fourth car is Michael Essa's brand-new BMW 350R. All teams will use Nitto's NT05 max-performance street tire.

Michael Essa will debut his BMW this season. Under the hood of the 335i, Essa has shoehorned a more powerful M5 V10 motor, built specifically for drifting. Essa is the first driver to campaign an E92 BMW in the series, and GSR Autosport had to do considerable amount of re-engineering to accommodate the switch.

His career highlights to date include a stint as a drift instructor, racecar fabricator and professional drift driver. "The Nitto NT05 is a great tire; it's incredibly consistent and has tons of grip," said Essa. "They give me the confidence to drive the car at the limit, sideways, next to walls."

The BMW will be in action at the 2010 Formula Drift season opener in Long Beach, CA on April 9-10.
