Pirelli has partnered with Porsche Motorsport North America to prepare a 911 GT3 Cup car for the upcoming Pike's Peak International Hill Climb. Also sponsored by Luminox Watches, the 911 has been modified to tackle the event with its gravel pavements and high altitude.
Driver Jeff Zwart, with a history of class wins at Pike's Peak, will run the car in the Time Attack division. He chose Pirelli P-Zero rain tires for the race. He claims that pre-race testing showed them to be an ideal choice and he hopes they will prove to be a winning combination.
"Having the opportunity to work with Porsche Motorsports and Jeff Zwart at Pikes Peak is an integral part of our continuing technical partnership with Porsche in North American sports car racing the last few years," said Rafael Navarro III, Pirelli Tire North America Director of Motorsport and Media Relations. "Taking our collective experience and applying the same road-race winning Pirelli P Zero and Porsche 911 GT3 Cup package to an entirely new discipline is the type of challenge Pirelli has embraced throughout its 100 years of success in motorsports."
The race consists of a 12.42-mile course with 156 turns, beginning at 9390ft and finishing at 14110ft at the summit of Pike's Peak.
