VW CC to come standard with Continental Tires

Jun 29, 2010

From now on, new VW CCs will be equipped exclusively with Continental tires. The same ContiSportContact3 tire used in our eurotuner GP from last year will be standard on European versions of the CC in 235/40 R18. While US drivers get the ContiProContact all-season tire.

Not just a conventional tire, they are a sportier tire, which provides greater driving stability and grip in various conditions, performing especially well in the wet.

"We are delighted with this further approval from Volkswagen for the ContiSportContact 3 with its seal technology," said Jorg Goner, automotive engineer from Continental. "Volkswagen is currently equipping all CC models exclusively with Continental tires with the ContiSeal technology to provide the driver a high level of safety in the case of tire failure."

ContiSeal is something few drivers will be aware of. It's basically a sticky substance applied to the inside of the tire at the Conti factory. It’s designed to allow the tire to remain inflated despite penetration by a nail or screw - almost like run-flats. This is accomplished thanks to a protective layer on the inside of the tire's tread that seals puncture holes. According to Conti, the technology can seal anything up to 5mm in diameter.
