For the tenth time, Volkswagen has won an 'Engine of the Year' award for its 1.4 TSI engine. It not only won the 1- to 1.4-liter category, but also took the overall award of 'International Engine of the Year'.
There to accept the prize was Dr Rudiger Szengel, Head of Volkswagen Petrol Engine Development. "We are extremely proud to receive this major international prize in the overall category for the second year in succession with the 1.4 twincharger," said Dr Szengel. "The combination of compressor and turbocharging provides an excellent basis for combining driving pleasure and low fuel consumption - all achieved with a relatively small engine capacity of 1.4 liters," he added.
Volkswagen leads the way in the strategy of charging using direct injection with these engines in everything from the Polo all the way to Passat CC and Sharan.
