Break out your checkbooks because the new and improved Mercedes-Benz CL63 AMG is coming your way. The new AMG will feature a 5.5 liter V8 bi-turbo engine with 571hp and 664 lb-ft of torque. This will be matched to AMG's MCT seven-speed speedshift automatic transmission which is said to "contributes towards a considerable increase in driving dynamics, while at the same time guaranteeing an improvement in fuel consumption and a reduction in emissions". We hope to test that in the future but Mercedes claims fuel consumption has improved to 26.9mpg!
According to Ola Kallenius, head of Mercedes-AMG GmbH: "We are heading into a new era with the CL63 AMG: for the first time we have combined spray-guided direct fuel injection with biturbocharging and the stop/start system. Together with the MCT seven-speed sports transmission, we have improved fuel consumption and reduced emissions significantly - while at the same time increasing output and torque."
Designated internally as the M157, the new V8 engine takes advantage of direct fuel injection with spray-guided combustion and piezo injectors. This technology enables improved fuel economy thanks to higher thermodynamic efficiency, which in turns leads to lower exhaust emissions. Other highlights of the innovative, original eight-cylinder engine from Affalterbach include full aluminum crankcase, four-valve technology with variable intake valve timing, air/water charge air cooling, generator management and also standard start/stop function.
The exterior features plenty of new changes as well, which include carbon fiber options and more aggressive aerodynamics. Stay tuned for the official specs of the US model. The '11 CL63 is set to debut at the Paris Motor Show this October.
