As many as four people have been injured in the crash, but the extent of their injuries are not known right now. Search and Rescue officials say a medical helicopter is unable to get to the crash site to help the victims. Crews are working on bringing the pilot and three passengers down to Crystal Creek Reservoir to meet the medical helicopter.

Hazmat crews have been called because there is a 150 gallon fuel spill at the scene.
Search and Rescue officials also report the helicopter was being used by a film crew who were filming an Audi commercial. They were flying an Aerospatiale helicopter. Pikes Peak Highway rangers say the top half of the Pikes Peak Highway is closed, but the fishing lakes remain open."

Audi Releases Statement on Helicopter Incident on Pikes Peak
Audi is saddened by the helicopter incident that took place this morning near the summit of Pikes Peak. Today's film crew was shooting a test run of the "Autonomous Audi TTS Pikes Peak," a joint program involving Audi, the Electronic Research Laboratory in Palo Alto, California, and Stanford University. The goal of the project involves ascending Pikes Peak autonomously without a driver behind the wheel to demonstrate the capabilities of advanced driver assistance systems and GPS. The car was not involved in the incident.

Further information on the helicopter incident will be released by the National Transportation Safety Board and local law enforcement officials. All research activities on Pikes Peak have been suspended. The research project will continue at a later date.

The helicopter crew was filming an attempt by The Stanford University Dynamic Design Lab (DDL), the Electronics Research Lab (ERL) for the Volkswagen Group in Palo Alto, CA and Oracle Corp to create an autonomous, unmanned vehicle. The final part of the challenge waswhat Audi described as high-speed test runs up Pikes Peak in Colorado. You can read our previous news story on the attempt here:
