At the first Qatar Auto Show (26-29 January), Volkswagen presented two exclusive SUV concept cars for the first time.
The first example seen here is a de-tuned version of the Touareg 3 that started in the Dakar Rally at the beginning of January. The second, found on the News pages at www.eurotuner.com is the Touareg Gold Edition, featuring many parts in 24-carat gold
The Race Touareg 3 Qatar is apparently a genuine rally vehicle, much like the ones that were competing in South America and won the Dakar Rally.
Built to withstand the toughest rally in the world, the concept vehicle being shown in Qatar is a version of the Race Touareg 3 that can sprint to 62mph in less than six seconds and is legal for use on public highways.
At just over 6.5ft wide, the body was slightly modified for road use. Instead of the 16-inch race wheels, new 18-inch BBS wheels were used.
The "Race Touareg" signature - also in gold - stretches the length of the vehicle. In turn, it is coordinated with the exterior paint in "Magic Morning," a white that has a gold shimmer to it.
The interior was completely redesigned; all that remains unmodified from the competition car was the rollcage. The interior has a well-organized appearance and is equipped with Recaro bucket seats.
In tribute to the Dakar Rally, the Dakar victories are etched in the anodized aluminum centre console, next to the "Race Touareg" signature.
Other trim elements are treated in matte carbon, with the rollcage in "Serpentino Grey Metallic."
The interior designers upholstered the seat sides and door trim panels in Black and Pure Grey Nubuk leather, while the center seat panels were covered with Titan Black perforated Nappa leather.
Additional accents include the two-tone seams and silver piping on the seat covers and safety-related items painted in Tornado Red.
