We are all cars guys in heart. So when we took a look at the quality of hot rods at the 59th Annual Meguiar’s Detroit Autorama, our jaws dropped. Detroit Autorama features the best of the best in hot rods, street machines and custom cars – all vying for Pirelli Great 8 status and the show-winning Ridler Award. This year, top honors went to Bruce Ricks of Sapulta, Oklahoma won the coveted Ridler Award for his customized 1956 Ford Sunliner convertible fitted with Pirelli tires.
The award, named for Don Ridler, is presented to the most outstanding new custom making a worldwide debut at Autorama. The best of the best are awarded Pirelli Great 8 status. Pirelli Tire presented each of this weekend’s Great 8 winners with $1000 as well as a custom jacket and award. Ridler winner Bruce received $10000 cash from General Motors (GM), a new GM Performance Parts engine, a custom trophy and a jacket.
Since its inception in the 60’s, the Ridler Award has gained attention and respect over the years as it recognizes the elite of the hot rod world. Each year, the announcement of the Pirelli Great Eight – the eight finalists competing for the Ridler Award – has gained notoriety as well, and is one of the most anticipated moments at Detroit Autorama.
