Following the success of the muscular C63 AMG sedan, Mercedes-AMG is introducing the new C63 AMG coupe to its high-performance family.
The same AMG 6.3-liter V8 engine powers the coupe, delivering a maximum output of 457hp and peak torque of 440 lb-ft for outstanding performance: the coupe is capable of accelerating from 0-62mph in 4.5 seconds and the top speed is 155mph (electronically limited).
The new coupe benefits from the technology updates that have been adopted on the C63 AMG sedan. Deploying the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT seven-speed sports transmission with "Controlled Efficiency" mode as standard, and a new power steering pump reduces fuel consumption: the combined European fuel consumption figure is 19.5mpg US.
This fuel consumption figure also applies to the performance version generating 487hp courtesy of the AMG performance package. Available as an option, this package improves acceleration from 0-62 mph to 4.4 seconds, with technology transferred from the SLS AMG responsible for the 30hp increase in output.
The forged pistons, connecting rods and lightweight crankshaft adopted from the gullwing model's high-tech drive system save 6.6 lb in weight. This reduces inertia and enhances the agility and responsiveness of the eight-cylinder naturally aspirated engine.
Visually, the AMG performance package can be identified by the variable intake manifold in titanium grey under the hood, the AMG high-performance braking system with composite front rotors and red painted brake calipers all round, the carbon fiber spoiler on the trunk lid and the AMG performance steering wheel in nappa leather with an Alcantara grip area.
Pricing and specification of the C63 AMG coupe is yet to be confirmed. The car will go on sale in Europe this summer.
