TireRack.com has announced its partnership with the highly-anticipated film “25 Hill,” written, produced and directed by Corbin Bernsen. The aim is to revive interest in the All-American Soap Box Derby.
To show Americans the beloved pastime of soap box derbies is alive and well across the nation, TireRack.com is sponsoring the soap box racer driven by the main character Trey Caldwell’s nemesis, Kate Slater, in the recently premiered “25 Hill.”
“The Soap Box Derby has been called the ‘Greatest Amateur Racing Event in the World’ and the ‘Gravity Grand Prix.’ The events have been popular among all generations of Americans since 1933.
The film, set against the rolling hills of Taft, CA, begins with the story of 12year-old Trey Caldwell, who receives a soap box derby kit as a Christmas gift from his father.
Without previously having an interest in the 75 year-old racing league, Trey explores his father’s love affair with the pastime, which ultimately sparks a journey of self discovery and purpose for Trey and his young co-stars. Although Trey and his competition fight their battles on the downhill derby, Trey soon realizes that each racer faces unique personal battles of his own in order to win.
Embarking on a battle of his own, Corbin Bernsen decided he could do something to save the Akron-based youth racing league after reading a USA Today article about the financial difficulties of the All-American Soap Box Derby. “This fantastic tradition has been with us for 75 years and is on the brink of extinction; we can’t let that happen,” said Bernsen. “The fact is, we are too young of a country to abandon the few traditions we have left and we must preserve our past. The All-American Soap Box Derby takes us back to a time where we still honored simple notions that we now take for granted.”
