The latest global One Ford product to hit the market is the all-new compact SUV called the Ford EcoSport, which made its international debut at the Auto Expo in New Delhi, India but was designed and developed in South America.
The new model will be sold in nearly 100 markets around the world. Its been designed to be less aggressive than many SUVs but retains the characteristic command driving position and has a signature spare wheel mounted on a swing-gate on the rear of the vehicle.
Designed for city streets, the Ecosport is said to be small enough for urban environments, yet strong and rugged enough for trips to the mountains or countryside.
Shaped for global appeal, Ford believes the car will appeal in growth markets like India and Brazil, following up on the first-generation model launched in 2003.
New EcoSport has a modern look, shaped by Ford’s global design language. It has a wide hood that sweeps into sculpted body lines. Oblique headlamps frame a trapezoidal grille, which gives the vehicle a signature Ford face.
The windshield is steeply raked, and black B-pillars unify the side glass into one elegant shape.
The rear features a large rear window which wraps around to the sides along with distinctive tail lights.
The Ford EcoSport’s South America development marks the region’s increasing importance in Ford’s worldwide product development system. The creativity behind the EcoSport was sparked in Brazil, a nation dominated by compact cars and one that has become one of the world’s key emerging markets. The design center in Camaçari, Brazil, is now part of a global network of Ford design studios collaborating on new global products.
