Legendary in Europe for its handling, performance and price, Peugeot is planning to revive the GTi badge for its new concept that will be revealed at the Geneva Auto Show next month.

The new Peugeot 208 GTi Concept re-introduces the legendary icon, which is first distinguished by its checkered-flag motifs on the mesh in the grille, while the lower bar proudly affirms its origin by displaying the French ‘Le Tricolour’ flag.

Other distinctive exterior features include twin tailpipes, lower spoilers and side skirt that all capture the signature badging.

Placed within the grille and rear quarter panels is the brushed aluminum GTi Concept logo as a salute to its illustrious predecessor - the legendary 205 GTi.

On the inside, the passenger compartment is a true GTi environment, with a characteristic sports leather steering wheel, the treatment of which is replicated on the gear lever, double stitching in the seats and enhanced with LED backlighting on the surrounds of the instruments.

The seats are trimmed with Nappa leather on the outer section, and cloth in the center, like the original 205 GTi 1.9, while they also have an embossed tartan motif and leather head restraints.

The red perforated leather steering wheel continues the check motif, and has a pronounced lower flat section. It carries the GTi Concept logo set in an aluminum ring.

To complete the sports interior, the fascia is dressed in alcantara with grey stitching, the headliner is entirely black and the pedals are aluminum.

The center console architecture and vents all feature a graduated red to black effect, and the checkered-flag theme is present on the aluminum door crossbars.

The GTi Concept is propeleld by the RCZ THP 200 engine. Combined with a six-speed manual transmission, the 1.6-liter THP engine puts its driver at the controls of a machine that captivates the driving experience.

The GTi Concept it has a 36mm wider track front and rear to enhance the dynamic experience, while a roof spoiler generates downforce at speed.

For optimum braking, the Concept is equipped with 302mm rotors at the front and 249mm at the rear, accompanied by red brake calipers.

Created exclusively for Japan, the model gets no powertrain upgrades but looks fantastic enough that we don’t really care.
