One of the world’s largest and best established VW GTI events celebrates its 25th anniversary this year when thousands of Golf GTI owners will gather with Audi and Seat owners at Bruntingthorpe Proving Grounds in the British Midlands.
GTI International will be held on June 23-24 as a weekend event organized by Volkswagen Driver magazine and sponsored by software specialists Revo Technik.
To mark the 25th anniversary, it promises to be the biggest and best yet, with Revo planning a number of special activites including BMX and MotoX displays.
Founded in 1988, when the Mk2 Golf GTI 16v was still the king of the hot hatches, GTI International has grown steadily and now attracts enthusiasts from all over Europe and around the world.
The main attraction is the car show as well as the quarter-mile sprint – last year saw over 500 cars registered for the races and more than 1800 runs timed.
There is also a handling course, promoted by Bilstein and Eibach with support from Hankook tires, where entrants can test their skills against the clock on a slalom course.
Meguiar’s sponsors the ‘Show ’n’ Shine’, which features hundreds of the country’s top VWs.
The event will additionally include a host of car club displays, vendors, autojumble, a driving simulator, children’s entertainment and on-site camping as well as a DJ, bar and fireworks on Saturday night.
As well as previewing the new Golf GTI Cabriolet, Volkswagen UK will display its collection of MkI-Mk6 Golf models.
German-based Volkswagen Classic Parts is bringing a number of historic cars to show at the event.
