"The new V40 Cross Country is built and designed for those who want a sense of adventure in their everyday life.”, said Lex Kerssemakers, Senior Vice President Product Strategy & Vehicle Line Management at Volvo Car Corporation. Its been a while since Volvo gave customers a car to enjoy “off-road”– we’re of course talking about the V70 Cross Country. The new V40 Cross Country (CC) combines carries on the V70 legacy with class-leading driving dynamics, interior comfort and a rugged personality with low emissions and impressive fuel economy. Volvo’s new push into more desirable vehicles that still meet their strict safety standards is a welcomed movement amongst families everywhere.
Equipped with a five-cylinder 2.0L turbo-diesel engine delivering 177hp/275 lb-ft, with a fuel economy rating of 64mpg. While the five-cylinder 2.5L T5 gasoline engine puts out 254hp/275 lb-ft and 34mpg. Each platform comes with an enhanced all-road, all-weather capable drivetrain as standard.
The CC will be available in base model offerings as well as a distinct R-Design model with 19” alloy wheels, silver roof rails, contrasting front bumper, grille and rear bumper. Inside the R-Design theme continues with the Raw Copper exterior color carried into detail stitching throughout the cabin.
Start/Stop is fitted as standard across the range, together with Bluetooth hands-free communication and wireless music playing, plus City Safety auto-braking technology and the V40's world-first pedestrian airbag. The CC is also the only car in its class to be available with Pedestrian Detection technology.
Other features included in the CC are Hill Descent Control and a Smart Storage system. The Smart Storage incorporates clever ways to keep items out of sight while still in reach. Even an ice scraper storage was designed into the car with an integrated draining system.
While Volvo is focusing the Cross Country’s attention on European and Chinese markets, they are estimating 17,000 being sold within the car’s first year. There is no confirmation at this moment from Volvo of a North American model to hit our roads just yet.
