With the wraps coming off the new Golf Wagon yesterday, VW surprised everybody with an R-Line concept.

The sales success of the sporty R-Line branding has prompted VW to offer upgraded versions of all its models, and this is the latest in a long line of enhancements under this badge.

The concept is based on a Lapis Blue Metallic, 150hp 2.0-liter TDI with 4Motion all-wheel drive using the latest Haldex-5 clutch pack to control power distribution.

The R-Line exterior features a new bumper with a larger center air intake with a painted lower spoiler and additional black splitters. On the side, gloss black sills catch the eye and lead to 18" Salvador R-Line wheels in "sterling silver" fitted with 225/40 R18 tires. The rear-end has a black diffuser with chrome tailpipes and painted roof spoiler.

Inside, the Concept R-Line has Space Blue nappa leather center panels on all seats, while black carbon leather was used on the side panels. With the seats also dressed in black nappa leather, the contrast stitching is in Crystal Grey for contrast. The headliner is Pearl Grey while the black floor mats have blue leather piping.

Of course, this is a concept but it's safe to say that the production version won't look significantly different. It will arrive in Europe first but we can possibly expect to see the R-Line Wagon in the US eventually.

Unlike most builds that are a product of some grand scheme of daydreaming and sometimes documenting plans for picking up a specific car and applying a headful of parts and changes to it, this turbocharged 1995 Mazda Miata is the exact opposite. Its owners and builders, brothers Alex and David Wong, had no intentions of
