Ferrari F12 Successor to Retain V-12 Power, Skip Hybrid and Turbos

Flagship coupe will keep large naturally aspirated V-12

The replacement for the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta/F12tdf will continue to use the current cars' naturally aspirated 6.3-liter V-12, according to a new report from Australia's Motoring.

While the Ferrari 488 GTB and Ferrari California T use a downsized 3.9-liter V-8 boosted by a pair of turbochargers, the new flagship coupe will continue to make power without forced induction or the previously reported mild hybrid system. The revised engine is said to make as much as 800 hp -- a noticeable jump from the F12 Berlinetta's 731 hp and F12tdf's 770 hp. The rear-mounted seven-speed transaxle design will also carryover.

Additionally, the new front-engine V-12 coupe is rumored to feature significantly smaller dimensions as well as reduced weight. Ferrari rates the lightweight F12tdf's curb weight at 3,351 pounds. The new Ferrari flagship coupe will also feature new active aero systems, suspension technologies, and tires.

In an earlier report, we said the F12 successor's new architecture would be package-protected for a version of the Ferrari LaFerrari supercar's 48-volt mild hybrid system. The latest report suggests that if the new front-engine flagship coupe did feature a hybrid power boost along with the aero and suspension updates, it could potentially beat the halo supercar around the track.

The Ferrari F12 replacement is expectedto arrive by 2019.
