While the all-new 2017 Ford Focus RS is the first car to offer a Drift Mode among its driver-selectable drivetrain settings, the new feature doesn't make up for lack of driving skill or common sense as seen in this video.
Proving that Mustangs aren't the only cars to show off when leaving the car meet, the 2017 Focus RS peels out and oversteers when exiting a Cars and Coffee event in Stuttgart, Germany. This time, however, the Focus RS driver is able to stop the car before T-boning an older Mercedes-Benz E-Class sedan. But after backing it up only a few feet, the driver cranks the wheel to the right and punches it, nearly hitting a few spectators standing near the center median.
Fortunately, the driver hits the brakes and no one is injured. The driver then slowly straightens out before heading down the road.
As one of the 2017 Ford Focus RS hatchback's driver-selectable settings, which also includes Normal, Sport, and Track settings, Drift Mode allows the car to power oversteer by sending up to 70 percent of the engine's power to the rear wheels. Drift Mode also loosens the reins on the stability control system and dampers to transfer more weight side-to-side out back.
Power for the 2017 Ford Focus RS comes from a turbocharged 2.3-lier EcoBoost I-4 rated 350 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque. A six-speed manual and the Ford Performance All-Wheel Drive system route power to all four wheels.
