The latest installment of the wildly popular Fast and Furious franchise – Furious 7 – is about to drop on Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital HD (September 15, if you’re keeping track), and to commemorate the release Universal Pictures Home Entertainment and crowd-sourced navigation app "Waze" have partnered for a special promotion. Dubbed the "Get Your Furious 7 Fix Fast" campaign, the marketing push will have “Waze” users in seven US cities seek out so-called Prizing Pit Stops to get a share of free Furious 7 merch.
It goes something like this: users of “Waze” will be directed to pop-up sites on one day in each city hosting the campaign, where street teams will be handing out complimentary Furious 7 branded t-shirts, hats, license plate frames, and a limited number of digital codes to download the film on Digital HD, among other swag. Each Prizing Pit Stop will go for as long as supplies last for up to 90 minutes and then move on to two other locations during the day.
Prizing Pit Stops are set for Sept. 11 in Portland, Ore., and Dallas, Texas; Sept. 14 in San Francisco, Calif., and Washington, D.C.; Sept. 15 in New York, N.Y. and Los Angeles, Calif.; and Sept. 17 in Chicago, Ill.
Additionally, "Waze" will display messages publicizing the home entertainment release of Furious 7 in the same seven markets. The promotion is running now through Sept. 17.
