The Honda press conference is generally one of the first to greet SEMA Show attendees, and this year in addition to a host of aftermarket parts news Honda also teased a restyled ninth generation Civic coupe ahead of its full reveal, which is set for the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show in a couple weeks.
The freshened 2014 compact coupe comes after Honda restyled the sedan for 2013, and primarily features a more aggressive looking nose and tail. To flesh out the preview more, Honda unveiled the 2014 Si sedan and coupe, which boast performance upgrades like retuned exhausts for more horsepower and torque and larger rear anti-sway bars, new dampers, stiffer springs, and 18-inch wheels and tires. The '14 Si will also have an exclusive honeycomb front grill, front spoiler, and rear diffuser and spoiler.
On the parts side, Honda Performance Development (HPD), which has mainly been supporting Honda's North American racing efforts from the grassroots all the way up to American Le Mans and IndyCar teams, is now officially Honda's street performance brand. Effective immediately HPD parts will be available through Honda dealerships, including a bunch of new stuff for the CR-Z sport hybrid coupe; these include 18-inch wheels, front lip spoiler, rear trunk lid spoiler, exhaust, rear diffuser, front brakes, and rear suspension mods, all covered by Honda's genuine accessory warranty.
But that's not all. In the spring of next year, for the first time in company history, HPD will offer a supercharger kit for CR-Z that adds almost 70 horsepower - nice!
We'll have more from the 2013 SEMA Show Honda booth in the hours ahead, including looks at the 1,000-plus HP Bisimoto Odyssey and straight from the UK, the 130mph-plus 'Mean Mower.'
