During 2019's week-long SEMA show, the Hondata booth, positioned directly in front of our Project 10th gen. Si, was busy fielding questions about a new product they were teasing during the mega-event. Taking aim at the FK8 Civic Type R crowd specifically, a complete fuel system upgrade was introduced, and co-founder Doug MacMillan explained that they were deep into testing and preparing for a first quarter launch.
This isn't your typical piecemeal fuel kit, requiring a pump from this company, injectors from that one, etc. Hondata has designed a complete fuel solution package and they've covered all the bases with the components you'll need in order to help fuel higher horsepower applications.
You're already very familiar with the K20C1's potential, as bolt-on parts and E85 conversions have flooded the market and impressive gains have been made in rather short order. The factory fuel system does of course have its limits, though, and Hondata has a solution to keep owners progressing. MacMillan adds, "This system is just what the enthusiast has been asking for - and provides the additional fuel needed to maximize power and torque."
Hondata states that the kit is designed to deliver 24% more fuel than the factory system. To accomplish this, the kit starts with a high-flow, ethanol rated, in-tank low pressure fuel pump and properly sized ethanol rated low pressure fuel line. A high-flow, direct injection fuel pump and high-pressure line are also used, along with a set of high flow injectors. Of course, it wouldn't be a Hondata product without some clever software, and that too is part of this system, incorporated via their FlashPro. The included calibrations start with an increase of 92 lb-ft. of torque and an additional 59 horsepower over stock with just an intercooler and high-flow catalytic convertor.
The complete kit is available through authorized Hondata dealers and we expect FK8 owners are going to jump at this new option to expand their power potential, especially with so many turbo kit upgrade options already available and in need of proper fueling.
Here, a mildly modded Type R with just an intercooler and high-flow catalytic converter takes advantage of Hondata's latest offering and pushes torque well into the 400s while offering plenty of support for future upgrades.
Here's an example of what those upgrades might equate to. With a Full Race turbo and race fuel, the new fuel system's potential can really be seen in this graph.
