Mercedes Shows Off Silhouette of Maybach Coupe

Hubba hubba

Followers of Mercedes-Benz on Instagram, you are not hallucinating. Yes, the folks over at Benz did indeed just tease a truly tantalizing silhouette of what is surely some sort of Maybach coupe. Chances are good that whatever it is, we'll know more at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance.

A big, long, sexy, exorbitantly exorbitant Maybach coupe. It even has a gorgeously slim greenhouse with a fancy Maybach badge on the fastback roof and a three-pointed star hood ornament, as well as seemingly huge fender vents with a big chrome strake running through it.

The teaser pic hints the shadowy two-door is "almost 6 meters of ultimate luxury." That's nearly 232 inches of high-end German metal. For reference, the yacht-like Mercedes-Maybach S600 sedan is 214.6 inches long, with a wheelbase of 132.5 inches. Yao Ming would likely call it "suitable" for his frame.

It's not clear at this point whether this still-secret Maybach coupe is a concept or a production car. All we can say, before we've even seen it, is that Benz should definitely, definitely build it. The S600 Maybach sedan is cool and all, silver-platter wheels included, but this coupe could be something extra-special.

One would think it would share the S600 sedan's potent 6.0-liter twin-turbo V-12, with its 523 hp and monumental 612 lb-ft of torque. Probably the champagne chiller, too.

Aside from what most automotive journalists think, the DMC-12 DeLorean was one of the dopest cars ever made. Of course, that isn’t due to its 130hp fuel injected V6 engine or suspect build quality, but for its iconic role in the Back to the Future Trilogy and also for its unforgettable, boxy design, brushed stainless

It wasn’t the all-too-familiar Initial D series, nor was it the almost natural association with drifting that pulled Lester Donis’s attention to his two-toned 1986 Toyota Corolla GTS. It also wasn’t a feature story or any sort of social media influence that nudged him toward the iconic hatchback. Interestingly enough, his childhood encounter with a
