The lowdown here is that Toyota and Fuji Heavy Industries-read Subaru-have been working on a joint sports car development project. There has been back-channel chatter about this for asome time and the cooperative effort has materialized in the Toyota FT-86 concept. This Corolla AE86 revival is more Subie than meets the eye. The chassis is common with both brands, and the powerplant looks to be a specially developed boxer four from the Subaru camp. Listed as the C-45, it's a 2.0-liter offering said to generate 200-250 hp. Like its inspiration, the FT-86 is a rear driver, hallelujah, and runs a 6-speed manual tranny. Dimensionally speaking, the FT-86 is smaller than a Z-car yet sports a minimally longer wheelbase. Price-wise, the number being thrown about is $20,000. Drifters get your groove on-can you say Initial D 2.0? We expect more details after the concept bows at the Tokyo Motor Show.
