Fiesta-Hoon:
Block Ready
To Rock
Late in 2008 Ken Block went critical mass as his Gymkhana video started its viral ascent to multiple millions of views. Well, as reported here at Modified, Block has switched jerseys. He's going from Subaru to Ford, but also jumping way up in competition to the upper echelon of rally racing: the WRC as a team driver on the Monster World Rally Team.
"The whole Gymkhana thing started quite simply. I was looking for a way to get more seat time that involved rally-type driving, and a series for actual Gymkhana racing sprung up in California," Block says. "I built the first car to compete in it, but unfortunately, the series folded after only one event. I then had a purpose-built car with nowhere to run it, so I rented El Toro airfield to go have a little fun with my new toy and ended up making a video from the day of practice. Next thing we knew, it exploded on the Internet."
Mr. Gymkhana is up to his old tricks laying down the adrenaline with another on-the-edge video and his new weapon of choice was recently unveiled. A purpose-built Ford Fiesta has been constructed for a staring role in Gymkhana THREE.
The Gymkhana THREE Fiesta will have a familiar look and be doing familiar things in the video. The Ford was constructed by Olsbergs Motorsport Evolution (MSE) and features an engine capable of 850 hp and a high-tech Maktrak 6-speed paddle-shift sequential transmission. Check your local listings this summer for the all-new video.
