'11 Subaru WRX STI Scorches Nürburgring in 7:55.00
The new '11 WRX STI, due out later this year, brings back its rally essence in the form of a widebody sedan. The motorsport look is backed up by real-world bite as rally ace Tommi Makinen recently lapped the 'ring in an impressive 7:55.00. As part of the development of the new car, the test mule included a number of items from the Subaru trick parts bin.
Major features added to the R205 test vehicle, a special edition for Japan market, include possible future model items like a bigger turbocharger, six-piston brake calipers, flexible tower bar and front lip spoiler. The '11 STI sedan has a set of Bridgestone Potenza RE070 tires and an aluminum hood from the Spec C. Under the safety banner, race-spec bucket seats, a rollcage and five-point safety belts were all added. The impressive hot lap makes it the fastest Subaru ever tested on the famed track.
