Subaru/Cosworth CS400 is for Real
Yet another variant of the STI has been launched, and this time it's the Cosworth Impreza STI CS400. This über-STI pumps out a prodigious 400PS (395 bhp) at 5750 rpm, which provides the gumption for 0-60 mph sprints in a scant 3.7 seconds. This compared to the 296 bhp and 5.2-second 0-60 mph for the standard Impreza WRX STI. The added zip makes the CS400 one of the quickest all-wheel-drive hatchbacks ever.
The CS400 is a balanced package that includes and upgraded braking system, AP Racing-derived six-piston calipers and 355mm discs at the front, dutiful suspension tweaks compliments of Bilstein and Eibach, as well as extensive exterior and interior styling updates.
There's no word on max boost pressure, but it has to be up there. Cosworth has made extensive engine mods to account for the big power increase, which translates to about 90 hp and 103 ft-lbs of torque, more than a U.S.-spec '11 WRX STI. The tuning house has added custom high-performance pistons, high-strength steel connecting rods and Cosworth-designed engine bearings. A new Cosworth-designed head gasket is also added, along with a high-pressure oil pump, and a revised turbocharger compressor and wastegate.
A limited run of 75 Cosworth Impreza STI CS400s will be produced, and the privilege of owning one will run rampant Euro-spec Subie enthusiasts a total of £49,995 (about $73,000). Ouch!
