The EVO is a bad-ass tarmac shredder that’s supremely tunable and surprisingly affordable, so the tuning scene gasped in unison when Mitsubishi hinted that the EVO wouldn’t be long for this world at the Geneva Motor Show. But before our cumulative blood pressures peaked, Mitsubishi officials in the U.S. fired back that the EVO would be here through the 2013 model year.
Since his Geneva comments, Mitsubishi official Gayu Eusegi has reemphasized that EVO production will move forward as planned. Other comments indicate that the EVO will survive past 2013, but its design and target performance will go in a different direction. With all the attention Mitsubishi has focused on electric cars and hybrids, the EVO XI may be a mean green player. If it becomes a performance hybrid, it better be fast; the EVO’s illustrious heritage has set the bar high indeed. Stay tuned.
