Helmet Innovation - Spinout

Is this the future of safety headgear?

Nov 29, 2011

Voztec, an Australian company, has put a new spin on the conventional motorsports helmet. The Voztec helmet is a full-face, rear-access, dual-locking helmet that has several advantages compared to the offerings currently on the market.

The Voztec Safety Release System allows the helmet to be opened from the rear, which promises to be advantageous after an accident because the neck wouldn’t be as stressed during helmet removal.

Shape was also a prime design criteria, as Voztec’s extensive studies concluded that the safest-shaped helmets are the rounder and smoother designs of the early ’90s because they have fewer snag points, and the fewer snag points the safer the helmet. Is this the future of safety headgear? Could be, but this is the fifth-generation prototype, so main-line production hasn’t been approved — yet.
