The Rally America Championship series continued on this past weekend at the Rally of the 100 Acre Woods in Salem, Missouri. This event was the second of six championship events and also known as the fastest event of the series. The high speeds and extremely dry conditions created major dust clouds which became a crucial variable affecting some teams on the stages and the Rally xD was no exception. The dust set backs pushed the team as far down as 5th place on day #1.
After another late night service at the end of day #1, the Rally xD was re-prepped to go out in full force and that’s exactly what it did. Even after losing a critical 3rd gear and being caught up in major dust clouds, Andrew Comrie-Picard and the Rally xD fought their way back not only onto the podium but into 2nd place beating 3rd place by just 2 seconds. “Just having the chance to get back on the podium was all we were hoping for and to not only do that but squeeze out the 2nd place finish was a very unexpected reward and end to our first ever race here at the 100 Acre Woods,” said team manager Philip Chase.
After two events, the Sparco Rally xD team sits coincidentally in 2nd place in the championship standings for the 2012 season. The next event of the championship series takes the team to Portland, Oregon for the Oregon Trail Rally.
