You gotta love how Subaru works all the angles with its array of special-edition variants of the highly capable Impreza. We just aren’t thrilled that these rare machines don’t see the light of day in North America. Subaru’s latest effort is an evolution of the previous R205 special, dubbed the S206, and, you guessed it, production will be limited only 300 units in Japan only.
Underhood the STI gets a bigger turbo, a better exhaust system, a higher-flowing intercooler and an ECU upgrade. The chassis is enhanced with special Bilstein shocks, chassis bracing and 19-inch rollers. Visually, the S206 stands out thanks to reworked front and rear spoilers and aggressive venting in the fenders. Additionally, one third of the 300 will be adorned with the NBR Challenge Package that celebrates Subaru’s victory at the 24 Hours of Nürburgring race in June 2011. The package adds a carbon-fiber roof, a more aggressive adjustable carbon-fiber rear spoiler, exclusive blacked-out 19-inch wheels and the prerequisite NBR badging.
