Ken Stout Racing Inc. (KSR) today announced plans to race a Scion FR-S in the Pirelli World Challenge GTS class in 2013. Robert Stout, the 2010 Pirelli World Challenge Touring Car Champion, has been retained as a Scion factory driver and will pilot the car in a factory-supported effort in partnership with Scion.

The KSR team organized under the leadership of Ken Stout, award-winning motorsports commentator and automotive enthusiast, has competed for seven years in various levels of motorsports and will make its sports car racing pro level debut in 2013 in Pirelli World Challenge. Since 2011, Robert Stout has been competing in GT, GS and ST classes in Grand Am. During his first year in Grand Am, Stout led numerous races and qualified as high as 2nd while earning five top 10's and one top five in 10 GS races.

“This is a great day for sure,” said Robert Stout. “This is what we have been working for over the past seven years. To get picked up by Scion is a very special honor. You can do everything right, put your time in, pay your dues, build relationships, win races and still never get an opportunity like this. It fits like a glove, the car is young and trendy not to mention the hottest release in years for the automotive industry. I fit right into their customer line, Scion is grass roots people and so is our team. There are only three of us, but now we have the needed support from Scion and TRD along with our good friends at Lucas Oil to go up against some of the best factory teams in the business. To be mentioned as part of the outstanding group of factory Scion drivers and join that unique fraternity is definitely one of my career highlights. We love the Pirelli World Challenge format, venues and the crowds they draw, we have a lot of friends there and I can’t wait to get the season started!”

In 2013, Stout will return to Pirelli World Challenge where he had a stellar 2010 season piloting a Scion tC in Touring Car. Stout took home the Drivers’ Championship, Rookie of the Year and Sunoco Hard Charger Awards in his rookie season in Pirelli World Challenge on the strength of five wins, nine podium finishes, 11 top five results in 12 starts and one pole. Stout’s performance also led Scion to their first ever Touring Car Manufacturers’ Championship beating out Honda, Mazda and VW for the title. Stout became the youngest winner and Champion in World Challenge history at 18 years old, as well as winning the most prestigious street race in the US, the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach.

“We are very excited to have Robert Stout and KSR representing Scion and the FR-S in Pirelli World Challenge,” said Steve Hatanaka, Scion Auto Shows and Events Manager. “Robert is a top driver who will be a great brand ambassador and is a great fit for the demographic we engage. We are eager to get the FR-S into competition to battle other top manufacturers in sports car racing.”

KSR is proudly partnered with Lucas Oil Products, a relationship that has spanned seven years.

“This is a massive undertaking to start a pro-level team,” said Ken Stout. “I wouldn’t dream of doing it without a solid partner and we are fortunate enough to have three in Scion, TRD and Lucas Oil Products. Lucas Oil and Scion’s parent company Toyota also have a great working relationship together and hopefully this will expand on that. We almost struck a deal in 2011 to put this effort together, but KSR needed the timing to be right to deliver from our side. We’ve had a great relationship with Steve Hatanaka since 2010. Steve is a great friend and Scion is a world-class partner, we are proud to fly their colors.”

“The team at Lucas Oil Products have supported Robert since his first time behind the wheel of a kart at age 13 and have never waivered,” added Stout. “Their early vision has once again paid dividends. There is no question that without the support provided by Forrest Lucas and Bob Patison from Lucas Oil, Robert would not be where he is today. We owe them way more than we can ever repay, but we will give it our best shot. This is an opportunity of a lifetime for Robert and I with our great marketing partners and we can’t wait to get into the fight with the talent level that the World Challenge series provides. It’s time to go racing!”

"We have been associated with Robert Stout since he was a young kid starting out in entry-level Karts,” said Bob Patison, Executive Vice-President Lucas Oil Products. “Robert has developed into a talented young driver and has been a great ambassador for Lucas Oil. We are delighted to see him get this opportunity with Scion. There is no doubt that he will be a front runner and a true asset to the team."
